The Danny Sprinkle Era in Washington basketball commenced on a high note, as the Huskies claimed their inaugural victory of the 2024-25 college basketball season on Tuesday evening. They relied heavily on the stellar performance of Great Osobor, who helped fend off a potential upset from the UC Davis Aggies in Seattle. Making his debut for Washington, Osobor netted 15 points on 4-for-8 shooting, alongside 17 rebounds, six steals, and two blocks over 38 minutes, leading the team to a 79-73 win.

After the game, the Huskies shared on social media that Osobor had become the first player in a major conference to achieve a stat line of at least that many points, rebounds, and steals in a single game since Blake Griffin’s tenure at Oklahoma.

Osobor is now on his third college team after spending his first two seasons at Montana State. He transferred to Utah State for the 2023-24 season, where he played an integral role in advancing the program, then under Sprinkle’s guidance, to the 2024 National Tournament as a No. 8 seed. He helped Utah State secure a victory over No. 9 TCU in the first round before they faced elimination in the second round against Zach Edey and the eventual finalist Purdue Boilermakers.

Originally from England, Osobor entered the transfer portal in April and chose Washington for his senior year. During his time at Utah State, he averaged 17.7 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game, contributing 1.3 steals and 1.4 blocks per outing.

Opportunities for Improvement in Washington Basketball

Despite the win against UC Davis, the Huskies acknowledge that several areas still require enhancement. Notably, they struggled with their three-point shooting, managing only 2-for-14 against a team that had been viewed as a 15.5-point underdog by various sportsbooks.

Osobor might have added more points to his tally if not for his struggles at the free-throw line, converting just 7 of 16 attempts. Additionally, he recorded nine turnovers and four personal fouls, which did not please Sprinkle.

“He knows me and I know him better than anybody, and I would say C-minus,” Sprinkle evaluated Osobor’s performance post-game, as reported by Percy Allen of The Seattle Times. “Despite the impressive stats, he missed nine free throws. I’m really proud of his 17 rebounds because he was in there battling.”
