In the wake of last season’s NBA betting scandal, former Raptors center Jontay Porter received a league ban and now faces potential prison time due to charges related to conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
Recent court filings have disclosed that Porter was in communication with his co-conspirators through text messages during games to provide real-time updates.
During halftime of a January 22, 2024 game against the Grizzlies, in which the Raptors lost 108-100, Porter exchanged several messages with two bettors (reported by The Athletic).

Porter conveyed that he did not anticipate playing in the second half due to a corneal abrasion, but mentioned that if he did end up on the court during garbage time, he would “shoot a million shots.”
“I went back to locker room to get eye checked on.”
“Idk if imma play much more.”
“I’m not starting second half.”
“But if it’s garbage time I will shoot a million shots.”
