Stephen Curry embraced the challenge in his first game opposing his former “Splash Brother,” Klay Thompson. Acknowledging the peculiar feeling of facing Thompson, Curry put forth a stellar effort, scoring a game-best 37 points. His critical three-pointer with 27.5 seconds left granted the Warriors a crucial four-point lead, securing their 120-117 triumph.
Additionally, this performance marked a personal milestone for Curry; according to StatMamba, he became the oldest point guard in NBA history to achieve back-to-back 30-point games. Alongside his 37 points, Curry tallied six rebounds and nine assists across 35 minutes of play.
Jonathan Kuminga also made significant contributions with 16 points and five rebounds, establishing himself as the Warriors’ second-leading scorer of the night. Both De’Anthony Melton and Buddy Hield chipped in with 14 points each, while Draymond Green rounded out his performance with 11 points, seven rebounds, and six assists. Andrew Wiggins added eight points to the Warriors’ score.
For Thompson, this game was emotionally significant, as it was his first opportunity to compete against the Warriors while wearing a Mavericks jersey. He rose to the occasion, contributing 22 points on 7-17 shooting, including 6-12 from long distance.
Beyond his scoring, Thompson also recorded four rebounds and three assists. A poignant moment unfolded at Chase Center when both Curry and Thompson exchanged knowing smiles and nods following each of their three-point shots.
Luka Doncic led the Mavericks with 31 points, complemented by eight rebounds and six assists in his 41 minutes on the court, while Kyrie Irving added 21 points. Daniel Gafford and Dereck Lively II also contributed with 15 and 12 points, respectively, in the defeat. The Warriors are set to host the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday, while the Mavericks will seek to bounce back against the Utah Jazz on Thursday.
