As baseball ushers in a new year, Alex Bregman remains a free agent, alongside other notable players like Pete Alonso and Clayton Kershaw. Despite the market being vibrant for such talent, Bregman is anticipated to make his way to the AL East for what could be a pivotal step in his career.
This could be either Bregman’s final stop or he may continue for another chapter after his tenure with the Houston Astros, contingent on the terms of any contract he receives. The New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays have both shown interest in Bregman, while several teams within the AL East are considering their options; however, the Boston Red Sox appear to be the frontrunners for his signature for several compelling reasons.
Multiple sources indicate that the Red Sox are the leading candidates to secure Bregman’s services. Boston could entice him to Fenway Park if they are willing to meet his demands, and it’s expected that Bregman will make a swift decision if an agreeable offer is presented.
According to MLB insider Mark Feinsand, the Red Sox are the most practical choice for the All-Star slugger at this juncture.
“The most logical team for Bregman at this point is the Red Sox, who have addressed their rotation concerns with the signing of Buehler and the trade for Garrett Crochet, but Boston has come up short in its pursuit of an impact bat,” Feinsand wrote in a report for MLB.com.
Walker Buehler Aims to Attract Alex Bregman to Boston
Walker Buehler, having just joined the Red Sox, is already advocating for Bregman’s arrival. The two have had a long-standing friendship, and Buehler is eager to have Bregman onboard.
“I have certainly made a pitch all over the place for him to come to Boston. He and I have been buddies for a long time. We played on Team USA together a little bit in college,” Buehler stated in an interview with Clutch Points.
With the Red Sox in need of offensive reinforcement, Bregman could seamlessly fill that role. The team is aiming for a playoff run this year, and lacking a formidable bat could hinder their chances. Bregman would also complement Rafael Devers effectively in the lineup.
